A Little Cabinetree….. Is a veneered cabinet that looks at the contrast between the organic and rigid structures of the natural and the man made.
It is also a study in the innovative use of aniline dyes to”hand paint” individual pieces of marquetry.
The cabinet component employs the same “waterfall grain matching” between the top and sides as seen in Oops! And like Oops! employs innovative integral hinges.
The box is veneered almost entirely with Western Maple inside and out. The sole source of color is the dyeing technique. To the best of my knowledge this is a new technique that I am developing .
The leaves were cut in double bevel style in a layout that would allow the dyes to bleed into the wood grain to simulate the way color flows in leaves in nature. The dyes were applied with an artist’s brush prior to assembly of the veneer panels.
The sculpted base is fashioned from Western Maple also and is dyed with aniline dye.
The dimensions are about 29”high, 18”wide and 12”deep.
