The Tea Clipper Box…….. Is a tea box made from spaulted Western Maple.
The top is veneered inside and out with marquetry on both sides.
The tea clipper and the albatross motifs are cut from commercial veneer and are only about 1/32” thick. Western Maple is used as the field veneer on the outside while the inside field veneer is Eucalyptus.
This marquetry was the first I cut on my chevalet and is cut in the challenging “classic” style.
The lid apron is dyed with black aniline dye.
The hinges are integral with the box and lid backs and the lid stops at a point just past vertical.
Tea bag dividers are removable.
