The Seiner Box………. Takes me back to my earliest days as a boat builder, working in a shipyard on the Fraser River where we built boats just like this for the salmon fishing industry.
Again the box is made from spalted Western Maple, with the same integral hinge design as the Tea Clipper box.
This time the outside lid marquetry depicts a Pacific salmon seiner retrieving her net. The field veneer is figured cherry.
On the inside of the lid , as you might find on the inside of the seiner, is the catch, shown on a field of Oak.
The marquetry is cut in “classic” style and is about 1/32” thick.
This one is left undivided as a “keepsake box” but could easily have tea partitions added.
